Altostratus Undulatus

Here are a couple photos I took this morning of the clouds, some Altostratus Undulatus came through with some small graupel. Some showers and thunderstorms are expected later today with some gusty winds and rain. Southern Kentucky may see a few isolated severe thunderstorms later on in the afternoon and evening.

Strong to Severe Thunderstorms possible Tonight

 Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible late this evening into the early overnight hours. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop and congeal into a squall line as it moves through Central Kentucky. The strongest storms are expected within the Enhanced and Slight Risk Areas. A Wind Advisory is in effect.

* WHERE...Portions of southern Indiana and central Kentucky.

Wind Advisory, Marginal Risk Wednesday

 There is a Marginal Risk for strong to severe thunderstorms Wednesday evening into the overnight hours as a line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to develop and move through the area. Damaging winds and heavy rain are the primary threats.

* WHERE...Southern Indiana and central Kentucky.


* WHEN...From 11 AM EDT /10 AM CDT/ to 11 PM EDT /10 PM CDT/ Wednesday.


* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

High Risk for Severe Weather in the South

 A rare High Risk has been issued for portions of Mississippi and Alabama for the potential of a tornado (some of which will be strong/violent) & severe weather outbreak. 30% hatched significant tornado and 45% hatched significant damaging wind threat for portions of Mississippi and Alabama. Outside of the High Risk Area, widespread severe weather with all modes is expected with threats decreasing farther North.





For Central Kentucky 

Widespread rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop over the next few hours and push easteard. Heavy rain and damaging winds are the primary threat, but the tornado threat is non zero. eastward. A Flood Watch has been issued in advance. Non thunderstorm winds will continue to gust up to 50 mph throughout the day, see wind advisory below the Flood Watch.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.


* WHERE...Portions of east central, north central, and south central Kentucky, including the following areas, in east central Kentucky, Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark KY, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard, Harrison KY, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Nicholas, Scott KY and Woodford. In north central Kentucky, Larue, Nelson and Washington


KY. In south central Kentucky, Adair, Allen, Barren, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Edmonson, Green, Hart, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Simpson, Taylor and Warren.


* WHEN...Through Sunday morning.


* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.


* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

- The heaviest rainfall, including repeated rounds of heavy rainfall rates caused by thunderstorms, is expected this afternoon and evening. Excessive rainfall may result in instances of flash flooding.

Lunar Eclipse March 14th, 2025

 Here are a couple pictures of the Total Lunar Eclipse that I took this morning. I may upload more pictures later, but now I am turning my attention to severe weather approaching my area. This is the only Lunar Eclipse of the year and I am very pleased with how the weather turned out in Central Kentucky for the viewing.

Severe Weather Outbreak Today & Tomorrow

 A Moderate Risk for severe weather with all modes likely has been issued for portions of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Tornadoes within this outlined area stand the greatest chance for tornadoes, some of which could be strong, large hail, and damaging winds 60-100 mph.





A Wind Advisory is also in effect

* WHAT...South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 45 to 50 mph expected.

* WHERE...Portions of south central Indiana and east central, north central, northwest, and south central Kentucky.

* WHEN...From 5 PM EDT /4 PM CDT/ this afternoon to 8 PM EDT /7 PM

CDT/ Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Secure outdoor objects.

On Saturday the Moderate Risk focus over portions of Dixie Alley. Once more all modes of severe weather is probable.


There is a Slight Risk for flooding due to heavy rain accompanied by severe storms on Saturday.

Severe Weather Threat Friday and Saturday

The Storm Prediction Center has portions of Central Kentucky in a Marginal and Slight risk for strong to severe thunderstorms Friday and Saturday.  A QLCS, line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to form and move across the area late Friday night into Saturday. All modes of severe weather will be possible with this line. Widespread severe weather with higher probabilities are possible in the Enhanced Risk area.
