Western/Central Kentucky Upgraded to Slight Risk.

The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued a High Wind Warning, which is in effect until midnight EST /11 PM CST/ tonight. The Wind Advisory is no longer in effect.

* TIMING...A second wave of strong winds is occurring along a passing cold front. The threat for strong winds should subside by Midnight EST.

* WINDS...During this periods, expect gusts of 50-60 mph.

* IMPACTS...Unsecured objects could blow around and expect difficult travel on east/west roads. In addition, expect scattered power outages.

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Central Nelson County in central Kentucky... Southeastern Larue County in central Kentucky... Western Marion County in central Kentucky... Northwestern Taylor County in central Kentucky... Western Washington County in central Kentucky...

* Until 1230 PM EST.

* At 1155 AM EST, severe thunderstorms were from 6 miles east of Hodgenville to 6 miles north of Greensburg, moving northeast at 70 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include... Bardstown, Lebanon, Springfield, Bloomfield, Loretto, Raywick, Burkes Spring, Dant, Booker, and Polin.

These storms blew trees down in Hart County.

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded portions and Western and Central Kentucky to a Slight Risk for severe weather. We have already seen a few tornado warnings this morning in Western Kentucky. This Severe Squall line will continue to push Northeast. Timing has been difficult, but these storms may arrive as early as mid morning to late afternoon, depending on if the squall lines speed changes. I will be updating this blog often.

The biggest threat for strong tornadoes will be in Alabama, however a brief spin up tornado cannot be ruled out in Kentucky.
