Strong to severe thunderstorms today

Multiple rounds of scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are possible today and tonight. The Storm Prediction Center has placed majority of Kentucky in a Marginal Risk. Damaging winds and hail are the main concern. The rain is certainly welcome as we are entering moderate drought.

Here is the 5% hail threat draped across the state.

Here is the damaging wind threat.

There is a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall leading to flash flooding. Areas that recieve multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will stand the better chance of seeing any flooding.

These storms will be pop ups and may catch some people off guard. As you celebrate the holiday weekend please stay tuned to your local Meteorologists and check radar before spending long periods of time outside or in water. Lighting can strike up to 15 miles outside of thunderstorms.
