Marginal Risk Tuesday, Fire Weather Continues

 There is a Marginal Risk for strong to severe thunderstorms tomorrow. The threat is a little higher in the Slight Risk in the south. Portions of Alabama and Mississippi are in a 5% tornado threat.



Fire weather threat continues, please check with your county to see if you are under a burn ban. Please refrain from burning.

Special Weather Statement

Gusty south winds are expected to increase through the late morning and early afternoon. Afternoon wind speeds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts to 25 mph are expected. Dry air mix down will result in lower relative humidity this afternoon, possibly as low as 25 to 30 percent in the afternoon. Combined with ongoing moderate drought conditions, an elevated fire danger risk is expected today.

Fire Weather Conditions Today and Tomorrow

 


RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM EDT FRIDAY FOR
GUSTY WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY FOR SOUTHERN INDIANA AND MOST OF
CENTRAL KENTUCKY...

The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued a Red Flag
Warning, which is in effect from 11 AM to 8 PM EDT Friday. The
Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

A Red Flag Warning also remains in effect until 8 PM today.

* WIND...From the west between 15 to 20 mph with gusts of 30 mph
  through early this evening. Winds from the southwest between 15
  to 20 mph with gusts of 30 to 35 mph Friday afternoon.

* HUMIDITY...Minimum relative humidities of 18 to 23 percent
  Friday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...any fires that start will likely spread rapidly.
  Outdoor burning should not be done.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.

 There's potential for strong to severe thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon. There is a 2% chance for a tornado, 5% chance for damaging winds, and a 5% chance for hail.

* WHEN...From 2 AM to 9 AM EDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
