Rain to wet snow overnight tonight

Minor snow accumulations are expected along and north of interstate 64. North and east of I-64 towards Locations south of here are expecting little to no snow accumulations to up to a dusting. We start today with mostly sunny skies, as the day goes on we can expect to see thickening and an increase in cloud cover. Much needed rainfall will begin to move into the area around 8:00 pm eastern. A quarter to a half an inch of rainfall will be possible with this system. The rain is expected to transition over to snow well after midnight.

The HRRR Model shows the potential amounts of snowfall and which locations are likely to see accumulation. This is an hourly model, so location and amounts will change by the hour as the model begins picking up on current information within the atmosphere while making predictions.

The Nam 3km model shows even less accumulation below the I-64 corridor.

Special Weather Statement

A system will move across the region late tonight into Saturday morning, with rain potentially changing over to snow for a few hours within bands of heavier precipitation rates. Areas of snow will lead to temporarily reduced visibilities and slippery road conditions which will improve quickly after snow ends. Light snowfall accumulations of a dusting up to one inch are possible on grassy surfaces.
