As hurricane Helene continues to make it's way through Florida after making landfall near Perry, it will have an impact on Kentucky weather starting tonight. We are already seeing a steady rain. A Flood Watch is in effect for 3-5 inches of rain with locally higher amounts from 7 pm this evening until Saturday morning. Gusty wind speeds of 50 to 60 mph is expected.
High Wind Warning
* WHAT...Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 50 to 60 mph expected.
* WHERE...Portions of and south central Indiana and east central, north central and south central Kentucky.
* WHEN...From 10 AM EDT /9 AM CDT/ this morning to 8 PM EDT /7 PM CDT/ this evening.
* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.
